About Dwarf Hamsters
Welcome to my site all about Syrian Hamsters and Dwarf Hamsters
Both Dwarf and Syrian hamsters make excellent pets due to their size and affordability. Hamsters are a clear choice for first time owners of pets. When you treat them good and handle them properly they can become very tame. It is important to give them a nice hamster cage to live in. Both Syrians and Dwarfs are similar in terms of care and needs but they do have different personalities and overall temperaments
Syrian Hamsters are fully nocturnal and dislike being disturbed during daylight hours. They do however, learn to become tame and tolerate being handled by humans, but they are not overly keen. Dwarf Hamsters are more people orientated and gregarious than their Syrian cousins. Dwarfs are commonly regarded as nocturnal but you can often spot them out in the daytime playing on their wheels, eating or 'socializing' with each other. Hamsters are not as attention needy as rats, rabbits or guinea pigs.
Hamsters are not just pets for children, they also make excellent pets for adults alike. There is a huge following of hamster enthusiasts worldwide who breed hamsters, collect them and take them to shows because hamsters are wonderful animals, each with their own unique personalities.
I personally recommend getting a hamster from a breeder. Breeders tend to treat their animals better than pet shops and they are also bred from good stock meaning reduced risk of defective genes and a bad temperament .
